It’s a common myth that “if you build it, they will come.” In reality, technically superior solutions lose to a product that did a better job of reaching its target audience. That means telling the right story. Focusing on the value to the user instead of the features. Positioning the product as a solution to a real problem.
The launch is where you prove it. If you’ve built the next great agentic AI harness, or the ultimate developer tool, or the next generation of an entire SaaS category, the launch needs to show that you understand who your customers are, what they need, and how to deliver it in a better way than they had access to before. Because if you can’t tell that story, they’ll never know how good your tool is — so why would they actually try it?

About this series
Great devs build great projects. But building a great product is about more than the frontend and backend. Kelsey Hightower hosts a competition to find out what it takes to really be a builder.
The Full Stack is a competition reality series presented by Amazon Web Services and produced by CodeTV. 8 teams compete to build a full product, from idea all the way through to production. Each episode presents a new set of challenges to test the builders’ abilities across the entire spectrum of building not just an app, but a business. And every episode, 1 team will miss the mark and go home.
This is not a hackathon. And for these teams, they’ll need a lot more than just code if they hope to win.
